Beginnings are rarely a single moment. They are the long work of arriving into a body, a name, a language, a city. These photographs sit with emergence — the first breath of self-recognition, the tenderness of being new somewhere, the courage it takes to keep starting. Birth here is not only origin but the continual act of becoming, repeated daily, in public and in private.

The rooms we build for one another: kitchens, dance floors, protest lines, prayer circles. Community is created through shared meals, conversations, celebrations, organizing, mutual care, and chosen family. These photographs honour the networks that sustain queer BIPOC lives beyond institutions and borders. Community reminds us that belonging is not something we inherit; it is something we create together.

Landscapes, land, soil, memories, footprints, artivism and the everyday moments of becoming, returning to oneself and being visible on our own terms. We remember, create, experience and capture moments of artistic expression, peace, nostalgia, beauty, being out in nature...

Herbal knowledge, somatic rest, mental health, and the rituals that return us to ourselves. Healing is rarely linear. It unfolds through rest, movement, friendship, creativity, food, nature, ritual, and quiet moments of care.

Memory of homelands held alongside the rivers, forests, and pavements of our new geographies. Land holds memory. It teaches patience, care, and renewal. For many queer migrants and refugees, connection to land can mean remembering home, cultivating new roots, or finding moments of belonging in unfamiliar places. These photographs explore the relationship between people, soil, seasons, labour, and hope.

Rather than seeing nature as fixed or orderly, it reminds us that diversity, adaptation, interdependence, and transformation are fundamental to all living systems. These images explore the many ways queer lives are connected to the more-than-human world. We explore queer in nature.

Archives are acts of remembrance — and acts of omission. Through photographs, stories, objects and everyday moments we preserve histories too often overlooked, while knowing that some images were refused, some were never possible, and some were lost before anyone thought to keep them. This closing chapter holds rest, repair, nostalgia and joy alongside the absences that shape the record.
